In light of some of the creative schemes you see on the internet we will, in the very near future, reveal to you the how some of these folks operate.
The premiss these dealers use is "bait and switch", they bait you with a low price then switch you on to a more expensive unit. One of their most successful ploys is only put units on the showroom floor with plenty of high profit accessories. For instance that $5995.00 Rubicon you want has a winch(450.00), big wheel kit (795.00) and a storage box (295.00). Really not bad, then they add labor to install, say 3 hours at $60.00-70.00, Now you have an additional $180.00 to $210.00 hmmmmm. Now that $5995.00 Rubicon is $7610.00 and you have not even made it to the finance office. Now, if you pay cash, stick to your guns and demand one without all the bells and whistles they will sell it to you. The problem is all the salesmen start to treat you as if you have leprosy. You see they only make money on the accessories they sell, nothing on the unit itself, so if you do not buy any they dont want to know you, you are taking valuable time they could using to fleece some other sheep.
THE EXILE
Eventually a salesmen turns your order in and you are sent to the waiting room. Here you are bombarded with information about extended warranties, life insurance, disability insurance, gap insurance and tire warranties. This is where things start to get different for you since all you want is the plain one and are going to hand them cash.
You notice other customers coming in after you and getting called before you to do their paper work, they are taking care of them because 1) they are buying the overpriced accessories, 2) financing their purchase or wow--BOTH!!! At this point you may get disgusted and leave or complain, or just wait it out. Finally they call your name--you go to the finance office--get rushed through and pushed out the door. When it comes to loading your vehicle they may or may not help you, you can bet the unit has not been washed-and the fuel tank has barely enough gas to start the engine. (by the way both these things are in violation of their Honda dealer agreements). So what does that matter they have your money and you are out the door.
IT DOES NOT RUN RIGHT
Your drive home is uneventful and when you arrive you unload your ATV and start riding around. Someone notices your front end is out of alignment, and the engines stalls a lot even after it is warm. No big deal, I will take it to my local dealer Monday and have it fixed. I get to ABC Honda on Monday and find out he will not fix it under warranty, because it is not a warranty issue, it is a PDI problem. PDI = Pre-Delivery setup and inspection. In other words the selling dealer was paid by HONDA to prep the unit and failed to do so. Now you have two choices, either pay for the work that needs to be done, or drive all the way back to where you bought the unit to have it fixed. Unfortunately you are upset, not at the place that sold it to you and got paid to prep it, but the dealer that told you he would have to charge you for fixing it and it is brand new. The guy you are upset with did not have a thing to do with the fact the vehicle was not prepped properly. Well "I would have bought it from you if you would have matched their price," well "if you would have purchased it here we would fix it for nothing, actually if you would have bought it here you would not have had to come in two days later needing a front end alignment and complaining it stalls out all the time"
